Toyota launches family hatch hybrid

TOYOTA is growing the number of hybrid models on offer to business users with the launch of the Toyota Auris Hybrid.

The new Auris Hybrid joins the existing Toyota Prius hybrid in the Toyota line up.

The Toyota Auris Hybrid offers a more compact alternative to the existing Toyota Prius and a rival to the Honda Insight hybrid hatchback.

The CO2 emissions of the Auris Hybrid provide a persuasive business case. There will be two models: the T4 with CO2 emissions of 89g/km (74.3mpg); and the T Spirit with 17 inch wheels with emissions of 93g/km (70.6mpg).

Both models qualify for the lowest 10% company car tax band; 100% writing down allowances; and zero rated road tax.

The Auris Hybrid is powered by a 1.8-litre VVT-i petrol engine and an electric motor to generate a maximum 134bhp, giving 0-62mph acceleration in 11.4 seconds and a top speed of 112mph. Performance, says Toyota, matches any conventional 2.0-litre petrol or diesel hatchback.

The Auris Hybrid’s full hybrid system allows the car to be switched into fully EV (electric vehicle) for up to 1.2 miles and with zero emissions.

There will be two grades: T4 offers 15-inch wheels, climate control air conditioning, anti-skid VSC, and LED running lights. The T Spirit provides 17 inch wheels with leather and Alcantara upholstery, cruise control and auto-sensing headlamps and wipers.

The new Auris Hybrid T4 model costs L18,950 on-the-road and the T Spirit model L20,700. It goes on sale from 01 July.

An optional Navigation Pack, providing satellite navigation, rear camera and rear parking sensors, costs L1,200; Bluetooth can be specified for the T4 version for L285.

The new Toyota Auris Hybrid models are part of the existing range of Auris petrol and diesel hatchbacks.
