Story: RALPH MORTON
BUTTON up your suit and hold onto your briefcase – really hot Hyundais are on the way!
And they are coming with a racing pedigree courtesy of Cosworth, the famous Formula 1 engine maker.
Cosworth has breathed its racing magic on the Genesis Coupe to create the 389hp Cosworth Genesis Racing Series (CGRS). The car won’t be shown this side of the pond – at least for the moment – as it’s making its debut at the 2012 SEMA Show in Los Angeles, America.
In addition to the Genesis Coupe, Cosworth also supplied the engine performance enhancements for the Hyundai Design and Technical Centre “Velocity” Veloster concept with a 400hp 1.6 turbo engine.
But will these hot Hyundais find their way across the Atlantic to these shores?
A spokesperson for Hyundai said the Cosworth deal was tied into the SEMA show only – so it’s unlikely for the moment.
But show cars such as the Veloster Concept turn into production form, and could form the beginning of a performance range of hot Hyundais.
For now, though, business car drivers have the Hyundai Veloster Coupe Turbo in the UK.
The 186PS turbocharged Coupe charges to 62mph from standstill in just 8.4 seconds, yet has a company car tax band of 22% and fuel consumption over 40mpg.
Using our company car tax calculator, a business driver on the 20% tax band will pay £80 a month for driving the hot-shot Hyundai.
But for those business drivers that don’t want things so fast-paced, but like the Veloster Coupe style, then you can always drive the 1.6 GDi 140PS Blue Drive model which has a company car tax banding of 18%.
For a 20% company car driver, that’s just £55 a month in benefit in kind tax.
