Fuel goes up by 2p per litre

The cost of motoring is going up for small businesses and consumers alike.

From today (October 01), 2p fuel duty will be added to petrol and diesel.

The increase is the result of this year’s commitment in the Budget.

The increase will push up fuel in some areas above the L1 per litre mark.

Despite the increase in fuel duty – a fiscal tax to incentivise the take up of more fuel-efficient and environmentally friendly vehicles – the environment is still low on the business buyer’s agenda, according to data due to be published by BCA this week.

“Our latest Used Car Market Report suggests motorists have the best of intentions to reduce their carbon footprint. But turning those intentions into reality is another matter,” commented Tim Naylor, spokesperson for the vehicle auction specialists.

“Environmental considerations came 10th on a list of car choice factors – behind price, make and model, low mileage and even colour. Green issues remain marginal with the vast majority.”
