Toyota is launching a new supermini class SUV. It’s called the Urban Cruiser.

The five-door Urban Cruiser 4×4 goes on sale May. It will have the lowest CO2 emissions for a four-wheel drive SUV.

Toyota says the Urban Cruiser will benefit from its Optimal Drive technology: advanced engine/gearbox engineering to make engines more powerful but less polluting.

The Toyota Urban Cruiser 1.4 D-4D AWD will have CO2 emissions of just 130g/km. This places it in the 18% company car tax band. Fuel consumption is 57.7mpg.

A two-wheel drive variant – the Urban Cruiser 1.33 Dual VVT-i 2WD model with Stop & Start – emits even less: 129g/km. The equivalent of a 15% company car tax banding. Fuel consumption is 51.4mpg.

Stop & Start turns off the engine when the Urban Cruiser comes to a halt and the gearbox is disengaged. And then re-starts the engine once a gear has been selected.
